Shankar Mahadevan visits NMMC headquarters to extend his support for Navi Mumbai in the Smart City Challenge

Belapur,Navi Mumbai: Under the aegis of the recently set up “Smart City War Room” by NMMC, noted singer and Navi Mumbai resident Shankar Mahadevan visited the Corporation’s (NMMC) headquarters at Belapur, to share his vision on how to make Navi Mumbai a grander address. Addressing live from the NMMC’s Smart City War Room, Shankar Mahadevan iterated “I love Navi Mumbai and I am proud to be a part of this city.” 

Singer, Composer & three times National Award Winner Mahadevan is one of the most prominent celebrities to hail from Navi Mumbai and his keen partaking in appreciating NMMC’s efforts to escalate Navi Mumbai in the smart city challenge led to his meaningful conversation with Mr. Dilip Waghmare, Commissioner NMMC.

 

Having travelled across the globe, Mahadevan has observed management of cities closely and gained knowledge of ‘smart concepts’ that set a city apart. He shared his ideas and vision with civic commissioner Dinesh Waghmare and the team of officials from NMMC on the occasion.

To transform Navi Mumbai into a ‘Smart City’, Mahadevan suggested efficient garbage disposal system, use of smart cycles and adapting other technological advancements.

I don’t mind traveling to and fro from Navi Mumbai for work because the calm and serene atmosphere I enjoy here is unparalleled. The city has always inspired me to aim higher and achieve the right musical notes. I have evolved with the city and consider Navi Mumbai my anchor,” said Mahadevan.

Elated at Shankhar Mahadevan’s keen support for Navi Mumbai’s nomination for Prime Minister’s smart city challenge, Mr. Dinesh Waghmare, Commissioner – NMMC commented that “The NMMC Team heartily embraces Shankar’s Global Vision for Navi Mumbai & etching the city of the future based on Technological & Civic advances for its residents.

While competing with 98 other cities in India, Navi Mumbai wishes to claim the title of ‘Smart City’     under the new scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Smart cities need uninterrupted power, water, proper sanitation, efficient management of solid waste, decongestion of roads and last mile connectivity. 

To become a ‘Smart City’, the corporation realizes the need to adopt ‘smart solutions’ and ‘smart governance’.

NMMC aims to establish Navi Mumbai as an exemplar for both citizens as well as other cities around    the world to emulate. A place where everything we want to achieve will come together: eco-friendly and sustainable environs, efficient infrastructure and an enviable lifestyle
