DPS Miyapur Students Sign Petition for Improved Road Hygiene at Ozone Run 2024

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India]  September 24: As part of their commitment to environmental sustainability, students from Delhi Public School (DPS), Miyapur, actively participated in the Ozone Run 2024, where they gathered to sign a petition advocating for improved road hygiene in Hyderabad. This initiative highlights the school’s dedication to fostering a cleaner and safer community for all.

The Ozone Run, held on 15th September, 2024, at Gachibowli Stadium, brought together over 1,000 families in a unified effort to raise awareness about environmental issues. Following the event, DPS students presented their petition to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), addressing critical sanitation concerns that affect the health and safety of local residents.

Celebrating Community and Commitment

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Shri Jagadeeswar Goud, MLA Contestant from Serilingampally, and Mr. Gareth Wynn Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner. Both leaders expressed their strong support for environmental initiatives and praised the community’s efforts to raise awareness. “This is not just a race; it’s a collective commitment to ensuring the health of our city and our planet,” stated Shri Goud during his address to the participants.

A Visionary Leadership

The success of Ozone Run 2024 can be attributed to the visionary leadership of its founders, Ms. Bilvoa Vunnam and Ms. Teerdha Vunnam, alongside SWAN Chairperson Mrs. Meghana Musunuri and Secretary Mr. Sridhar Vunnam. Their dedication to promoting environmental awareness has been instrumental in creating a platform that not only encourages fitness but also fosters a sense of community responsibility. Under their guidance, the event successfully brought together participants from various prestigious schools, emphasizing the importance of educating younger generations about sustainable living.

Participants enjoyed a range of activities, including a 2K, 5K, and 10K run, along with medical aid, post-run meals, and entertainment. The event concluded with a petition presented to public representatives, calling for immediate action on improving road hygiene across the city.

The petition, signed by 3,800 students and staff, outlines specific hygiene issues, including improper waste disposal, infrequent trash collection, and safety concerns related to stray animals near garbage sites. “We believe that by voicing our concerns, we can make a significant impact on the cleanliness of our roads and neighborhoods,” said Principal Ms. Gowri Sarkar.

At the Ozone Run, students engaged with the community, raising awareness about the importance of maintaining hygiene and taking responsibility for their surroundings. The event served as a platform to emphasize the role of youth in driving positive change in their communities.
