Devendra Fadnavis, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Inaugurate Future-Ready Andheri RS Post Office; Scindia Calls for Return to Letter Writing

Devendra Fadnavis and Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated the newly renovated Future-Ready Andheri Railway Station (RS) Post Office in Mumbai today under the ‘Jan Sewa Connect’ initiative in the presence of Ameet Shetam , MLA Andheri West and Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra and Goa Circle, Amitabh Singh.

Originally established in 1932-33, the Andheri RS Post Office has now been transformed into a modern, citizen-centric and technology-enabled service hub with upgraded infrastructure, enhanced customer facilities and improved digital integration.

The renovation has been carried out under India Post’s flagship ‘Jan Sewa Connect’ Project in collaboration with School of Planning and Architecture, a premier Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The initiative aims to modernise traditional post offices while preserving the trust and emotional legacy associated with India Post. The project focuses on contemporary architecture, improved customer experience, efficient service delivery, digital integration and unified branding across the country.

The School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, played a key role in the conceptualisation and transformation of the Andheri RS Post Office through standardised architectural and interior design systems and citizen-friendly layouts.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Scindia said “India Post, with a legacy spanning over 170 years and a network of more than 1.5 lakh post offices, continues to play a crucial role in financial inclusion and digital connectivity across India. The Department has also registered a 16 per cent growth in Gross Postal Revenue during 2025-26.”

He added that “In this age of constant notifications, endless scrolling and conversations reduced to blue ticks, perhaps it is time we return to something more human and more real. A handwritten letter carries emotion, thought and time in a way no instant message can. In this digital era, we need moments where we consciously keep our mobiles away and dedicate at least one hour a day to expressing our thoughts and feelings through writing. Sometimes, the heart speaks better through ink than through screens. The post office is not just delivering letters anymore. It is quietly delivering us back to ourselves.”

Scindia emphasised that “the renovated Andheri RS Post Office stands as a symbol of India Post’s transition from tradition to technology and its commitment towards efficient, accessible and citizen-centric public service delivery.”

Following the inauguration, Devendra Fadnavis, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia later interacted with postmen, postwomen and staff members of the Maharashtra Postal Circle at Andheri Sports Complex.
